Joseph Bushaw

Joseph Bushaw is a retired Senior Federal Air Marshal with a career spanning over 35 years in Federal, Local, and Military Law Enforcement. His extensive background includes maintaining a Top-Secret Clearance for an impressive 26 years, with four of those years designated under the prestigious Yankee White Title—an exclusive Top Secret-level security clearance permitting direct service and contact with the President of the United States.

As a Senior Federal Air Marshal, Mr. Bushaw undertook global deployments aboard U.S. air carriers to thwart criminal activities, counter terrorist threats, and prevent aircraft piracy. He assumed leadership roles during both domestic and foreign deployments, serving as the principal adviser for the Federal Air Marshal Service on all operational support matters. His responsibilities encompassed close collaboration with various international, federal, and state law enforcement agencies, including interactions with domestic and international stakeholders, host government officials, airport personnel, and the Department of State. Mr. Bushaw conducted intelligence briefings on sensitive security information and delivered precise and timely responses to tasks, requests, and recommendations aimed at mitigating real or potential security threats. Furthermore, he held the position of a certified instructor for The Federal Air Marshal in multiple disciplines, specializing in behavior recognition, surveillance, defensive tactics, and physical fitness.

During his tenure with The Chesterfield County Police Department (Chesterfield, VA), Mr. Bushaw wore several hats, including Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Marine Patrol Officer, Undercover Street Drug Officer, Instructor, and a valued member of the SWAT Team. His commitment to professional development led him to attend various specialized schools, including the International Chief of Police's (IACP) SWAT 1 & 2, IACP Dignitary Protection Course, Chesterfield County Police SWAT Academy, and state certification as an instructor in defensive measures and DUI enforcement.

As a United States Marine, Mr. Bushaw held two distinct roles. Firstly, he served as a Military Police Officer and was an integral part of Camp Pendleton's Special Enforcement Branch. In this capacity, he provided security for high-profile individuals such as former President Ronald Reagan, Joe Walsh, and Paul Shore. Secondly, he was a member of the Marine One Helicopter Security Detachment, entrusted with safeguarding the Presidential Helicopters and other executive assets. Mr. Bushaw's responsibilities extended to planning and coordinating security operations and missions while adeptly addressing highly sensitive security matters involving foreign and domestic nationals, government officials, and diplomatic staff, all with direct implications for the Presidential Helicopters. In a notable assignment, Mr. Bushaw was selected to assist in the security detachment for Pope John Paul II's visit to the United States in 1995. During his tenure with HMX-1, he honed his expertise through participation in specialized schools such as the BSR Anti-terrorist Driving and Detection Course, Drug Enforcement Administration's Raids/Tactics Instructors Course, White House Executive Support Contingency Operations and Readiness Course, and the United States Marine Corps Close Combat Instructors Course.
